Cookie Policy

Effective October 14, 2026

Every cookie the app sets, what it is for, and how to change what you have agreed to.

The short version

We set a handful of cookies that are needed to run the app, and a few that remember display settings you chose yourself. We also use one analytics tool, PostHog — but only if you agree to it, and nothing it sets is written and nothing it records is sent until you do. We run no marketing or advertising technology at all.

You can change your mind at any time from the "Cookie choices" link at the bottom of this page.

What this covers

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. This policy also covers local storage, which works differently but is used for the same kinds of things and is treated the same way by the law.

Strictly necessary

These cannot be switched off, because without them the app does not work. They do not track you and they are not shared with anybody.

NameWhat it doesHow long it lasts
Clerk session cookiesKeeps you signed in. Set by our authentication provider.Session, refreshed as you use the app.
tp-p-<card>Remembers that this browser joined a particular card, so your own square keeps appearing to you on that card.1 year.
tp-d-<card>Holds what you are writing on a friend's card — the square you picked, your goal, and anything you are putting up — while you move between the steps, so going back a step loses nothing. That includes the steps before you have an account: what you chose waits here, in this browser, until you make one or sign in. Nothing is saved to that card until you press the last button or your account is made, and this is deleted when it is.Until you finish, or 7 days (an hour, before you have an account).
tp-hs-<card>Set when you open a personal link a friend made for you, with a square they wrote for you ahead of time. It keeps that square waiting in this browser until you finish on their card, so it can go on the card made for you then. Nothing else is in it.Until you finish, or 30 days.
tp-consentRemembers the cookie choice you made on this page, so we do not ask you again.180 days.
tp-cmsOnly ever set for an administrator who has turned on the text editor. Never set for anybody else.1 year, or until editing is switched off, which deletes it.
tp-atlasOnly ever set for an administrator testing the app as its practice person, a made-up account that never meets a real one. Never set for anybody else.4 hours from the last page they opened, or until they leave the test, which deletes it.
tp-atlas-stash, tp-atlas-tess, taskpot.atlas-stash and taskpot.atlas-tess (local storage)Only ever set for that administrator, during that test: their own cookies and saved settings from this site, put away while they use the app as the practice person (and the practice person's, while they are themselves), so that nothing of theirs is lost. Never set for anybody else.Until they leave the test, which puts everything back and deletes them.
taskpot.atlas.stay (local storage)Only ever set for an administrator testing the app: whether their test tool stays on the page they are looking at when they change the practice card. Never set for anybody else.Until they change it, or clear this site's data.
tp-offline-v1 (browser cache)The page the app shows when you are offline, kept by its service worker so you see a notice instead of a browser error. It holds that one page and nothing about you or your cards.Until you clear this site's data.
taskpot.demo.v1 (local storage)The practice card on the front page. It lives only in your browser and is never sent to our servers.Until you clear it or sign up.

Preferences

These remember a display setting that you chose, at the moment you chose it, using a control that exists to set it. They hold nothing but that setting, and they follow you nowhere.

NameWhat it remembersHow long it lasts
tp-themeWhich theme you picked.1 year.
tp-scaleYour text size.1 year.
tp-densityHow tightly the app is spaced.1 year.
tp-cellsWhether a card's squares are the roomier size.1 year.
tp-motionWhether animations play.1 year.
tp-soundWhether the app's sound effects play.1 year.
tp-sound-themeWhich sound effect theme you picked.1 year.
tp-sound-volumeHow loud you set the sound effects.1 year.
tp-daub-cursorWhich pointer shows over a square you can daub.1 year.
tp-daub-cursor-sizeHow big that pointer is drawn.1 year.
tp-photosWhether photos show through your card's squares.1 year.
tp-groupfirstWhether a finished goal keeps its group's colour.1 year.
tp-cardWhich of your cards you were last on, so the backlog and the pages about your account keep showing that card in the header.1 year.
tp-backlog-viewWhether your backlog shows as a list or as squares.1 year.
tp-shelfWhether the sealed rewards at the top of a card's river are shown or folded to one line.1 year.
tp-shelf-hushWhich of your cards you hushed the sealed rewards on, with a short code for what each held at the time, so they come back when that changes. It holds no names and no words.1 year.
tp-haulA random code for this browser, set when you finish a public card in the Haul, so your answers count once in that card's percentages. It is not tied to your account and holds no names and no words.1 year.

And these notes this browser keeps about things you have already seen, closed or played, so each one stops showing or shows your own result again. They hold nothing but that, live only in your browser and are never sent to our servers.

NameWhat it remembersHow long it lasts
taskpot.install (local storage)How many times you have daubed on this device and whether the board has suggested adding the app to your home screen, so it suggests it at most three times and never after you say no or install it. It is never sent to us.Until you clear it.
taskpot.spin-door-used (local storage)That you have pressed the Spin button in the middle of a card, so the hint pointing at it stops showing. Signed in, your account remembers it too, so the hint stops on your other devices.Until you clear it.
tp-invite-nudge-dismissed:<card> (local storage)That you closed the note on your card asking you to bring in a first friend (or to ask a friend whose card you are on for its first square), so it stays closed on that card.Until you clear it.
taskpot.share-nudges (local storage)Which of the three share suggestions (after a photo, a first bingo and a lock) you have already seen on each card, so each shows once and never again.Until you clear it.
taskpot.haiku-seen (local storage)Which finished haiku on your crew's squares you have already seen, so the small moment when one is finished plays for you once.Until you clear it.
taskpot.haul.v1 (local storage)Your last answers on each public card in the Haul, so the card shows your result again when you come back and the Haul marks the ones you have played. This copy stays in your browser.Until you clear it.
taskpot.haul.vs.v1 (local storage)Your answers on the last few challenges a friend sent you in the Haul, so a challenge shows how you compare again when you come back to it. This copy stays in your browser.Until you clear it.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand which parts of the app get used, so that we can make it better. It is hosted in the United States. It is not used to follow you to other sites, and it is never given the words you write — your goals, your ideas, the photos you attach and what your friends put up are never sent to it.

On your own signed-in screens it also records a session replay: a reconstruction of what the page looked like as you used it, which is how we find out that something was hard to find. Everything you type is masked before it leaves your browser, and so is the text of every square on your card. Replays are never recorded on an invite link or on the practice card on the front page.

The practice card on the front page is measured without any cookie at all: we count what happens during the visit and keep nothing that would recognise you if you came back.

NameWhat it is forHow long it lasts
ph_… (PostHog)Recognises the same browser between visits so a return is not counted as a new person. Set only after you agree.1 year.

We keep what it records for 12 months. It will not load unless you have agreed to it, and withdrawing takes effect immediately. Declining costs you nothing: every part of the app works identically either way.

Marketing

Nothing is currently set in this category either, and it is a separate choice from analytics on purpose — agreeing to one never means agreeing to the other.

If we ever add a tag that measures the effect of an advertisement or that an advertising network can read, it belongs here, it will be named here, and you will be asked again before it runs.

Changing your mind

Use the "Cookie choices" link at the bottom of this page to reopen the banner and change any answer. A change takes effect immediately.

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser's settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will stop you being able to sign in.

We ask again every 180 days regardless, and any time we add something that changes what you were agreeing to.
